Projects

Mitchener Foundation will have several projects including:

Group Home - Our biggest project will be a group home in the Phoenix Area for 4-5 young adults on ventilators. Founder Jason Mitchener has lived in a long term care center for seventeen years and knows firsthand that “there’s no place like home.” We are committed to reintegrate a handful of young adults into the community.

Academic Scholarships - W.B. Yeats said, “Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire.” Education can help better prepare people to be on fire to support themselves and to make a difference in their communities. This is even more so for people with disabilities who face greater challenges. We hope to make an education more feasible by offering small academic scholarships.

Assistive Technology Scholarships - Assistive technology, such as voice-controlled computers and environmental control units, can take someone on a ventilator from a life of dependence to a life of independence. Assistive technology can also be expensive so we hope to offset the cost by providing assistive technology scholarships.

Birthday Gift Program - People on ventilators in care centers often get some sort of gift on Christmas from churches or the care center’s activities department, but often their birthday goes unrecognized. We hope to work with care centers to provide small birthday gifts to people on ventilators.

Care Center Visitation Program - In the founder Jason Mitchener’s care center, there are over 40 people on ventilators and about 25% of those people get zero or only a few visitors. The statistics are probably similar for other care centers. We hope to enlist volunteers to visit care center residents on ventilators on a weekly basis. Weekly visits can bring joy to these people.

Respite Care Program - Being a parent is a difficult responsibility. This is even greater when your child is on a ventilator. We hope to enlist a group of nurses and respiratory therapists who will provide respite care for parents of children on ventilators.

All of these projects will require money and help from many people. If you would like to help, please visit our donation page or our volunteer page.
